Over the past few months, I have had the pleasure of getting back in touch my Daddy's best friend, Mr. Jimmy. Daddy and Jimmy had dreams of living next door to each other at the lake and I am pleased to say that Mr. Jimmy has carried on with these plans. He keeps my Daddy in his heart, so in a way, it is like Daddy is still there with Jimmy, fufilling their dream. He is truly standing the the gap for our Daddy now by being a wonderful friend to me and my sister. His letters mean the world to us and provide a tangible connection to our Daddy, through the memories he shares. Words cannot express what his friendship means to us. He has honestly given us a piece of our Daddy back.
When we started this blog we talked about wanting to help other families who are living with substance abuse by sharing our own stories. We dreamed of speaking at rehabilition centers and interacting with others who, like our own Daddy, struggle with addiction. We wanted families to know that healing can and does happen and no matter how bleak things may seem, there is a path back to love and forgivness. And now, through my Daddy's best friend, Mr. Jimmy, I have been given that very opportunity. Mr. Jimmy runs a rehabilitation center north of Tulsa, and next weekend, my youngest son and I will be traveling there to visit him and I will be speaking at his center. I am so honored to have this opportunity and yet, I am also very nervous. I pray that what I say will be helpful and that my Daddy will be honored. I am looking ahead. and praying for good things. And it feels wonderful.
